Naquaisha Rattray
In this SkillBridge Alumni interview, Naquaisha “Quay” Rattray reflects on her transition from six years of military service as a radar technician into the civilian workforce and her experience as a SkillBridge intern with TAIA. During her internship, Quay learned how much of the experience she developed in the military could transfer into a civilian workplace. Through opportunities to work independently, communicate professionally, and learn new systems and processes, she gained greater confidence in applying those skills outside of the military while continuing to work toward her bachelor’s degree in finance. One of Quay’s biggest takeaways for future SkillBridge interns is to treat the experience like an opportunity. Ask questions, volunteer for new things, learn as much as possible, and build relationships with the people around you. Just as importantly, don’t underestimate what you already bring to the table — you may have more transferable skills than you realize; sometimes the challenge is simply learning how to communicate them in a way that translates to the civilian workforce.
Silas Timberlake

Josh Anderson
After 20 years leading logistics in the U.S. Army, Josh Anderson made a bold transition—from the regimented world of military operations to Human Resources at Trusted American Insurance Agency (TAIA).
Originally set for a logistics analyst role, Josh embraced the opportunity to broaden his portfolio in HR—and ran with it. During his four-month SkillBridge internship, he:
- Revised the Internship Handbook, Time-Off Request, Statement of Work Request, and the HR Internship Continuity Book.
- Streamlined processes to make HR operations more fluid and efficient.
- Trained others to take the torch, ensuring his impact would last beyond his tenure.
Military skills translated seamlessly for Josh—organizational expertise dropped right in—but he also learned to flex in new ways, like communication and patience in a civilian setting. Along the way, he picked up some office perks too: first-name basis and a soft spot for TGIF.
His advice for veterans still in uniform, contemplating internships?
“Stay patient, and be grateful for the opportunity.”
